What If - Meetings and Design Team Updates
Design Team Update– New Vision
(12/15/2011)
Design Team is working on the evaluation of the “Church Row” neighborhood. We will be contacting various agencies such as Irving Elementary, Church Row Neighborhood Association, Waterloo Police Department and the Waterloo Planning Department to determine what the strengths of the neighborhood are as well as some of the needs.
Currently, the Design Team is reading a book entitled “Building Communities from the Inside Out” by John Kretzmann and John L. McKnight. This book discusses how churches can work with neighborhoods to develop their strengths and covers all aspects of neighborhood development.
The design team will be meeting again at the beginning of January. Look for updates at church and subsequent Heralds.
What's New for "What If"
(11/17/2011)
The first part of our journey into the future; the “What If?..” process, culminated with an amendment by the Ad Team and a congregational meeting. The amendment is as follows:
The Administrative Team believes that WFUMC is a viable congregation and will remain at this location. The Administrative Team will work in conjunction with the Design Team to:
1. Act with community leaders to determine the needs of this neighborhood;
2. Continue to foster the spiritual vitality of the membership; and
3. Develop ways to improve communication to the membership
The Design Team is pleased to announce that Pam Arndorfer has agreed to join the team. She brings her experience working in the church and in the community to the Design Team. We are looking forward to her assistance on the next phase of the process.
The Design Team is busy working on the next phase which is a “Needs Assessment” of the neighborhood and community. The assessment will be finished by the end of January. The needs assessment will be the first phase while we continually look for ways to improve communication and foster our congregation through this spiritual journey.
